Legendary comedian will talk about his career and work as chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and show rarely-seen home movies of him with Dean Martin.
Legendary entertainer Jerry Lewis will talk about his career at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 5. The event will feature classic film clips, home movies of Lewis with fellow entertainer Dean Martin, and a question and answer session. A world-famous comedian and actor, Lewis has received critical acclaim for his comedic ability and timing. Lewis has also been nominated for a Noble Peace Prize and was awarded the U.S. Department of Defense’s distinguished public service award, the department’s highest civilian award. Lewis is national chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He has spent more than half his life working to cure muscular dystrophy and other related diseases. The classic cartoon comes to the stage of the Mayo Performing Arts Center.
Scooby Doo, Shaggy, and the rest of the murder mysteries gang will take to the stage in an all-new family musical at the Mayo Performing Arts Center this month. “Scooby Doo Live! Musical Mysteries” will be playing at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on March 29. A trouble-making ghost is haunting a local theater and the gang has to try and crack the case. The performance features big musical numbers and new characters. Performances will be staged at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on March 29. Tickets cost between $29 and $39. Juniors took the first prize and a sophomore took the second prize.
Students from Morristown High School swept first and second place honors at the sixth annual Morristown's Got Talent competition Wednesday, according to NJ.com. Juniors Katherine Merwin and Julia Cipriani won the first place prize at $1,000 for their rendition of "Love's Philosophy" with Merwin providing vocals and Cipriani on the keyboard. Sophomore Jonathan Aloba won the $500 second place prize with a dance routine. Siblings Sofia, Arthur and Isabella Wawrzyniak sang Imelda May's "Proud and Humble" and won the $250 third place prize. The annual fundraisder for the Morris Educational Foundation usually features 16 acts by people who live, work or go to school in Morristown, Morris Plains or Morris Township. Patrons can hear the song styles of George and Ira Gershwin, a cappella music and enjoy a laugh with comedy show.
The Mayo Performing Arts Center will host a variety of events next month. Multi-platinum selling musician Michael Feinstein will perform classics from George and Ira Gershwin at the center on March 21. Feinstein met Ira Gershwin in 1977 and became his assistant for six years. He gained access to several of Gershwin’s unpublished songs, many of which he has recorded. Feinstein, a five-time Grammy nominee, has been called “The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook.” Feinstein’s concert will begin at 8 p.m.; tickets cost between $69 and $99. Auditions for 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' begin Feb. 7 for thespians aged seven-through-21.
To all our thespians between seven and 21 with dreams of performing in front of a lot of people ... how does 1,400 thrill you? The Mayo Performing Arts Center is holding open auditions in February for its first-ever in-house production, a four-show run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Auditions begin Feb. 7. The show will run from May 31 through June 2. One of Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice's best-recognized productions, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. Annual Morris Educational Foundation fundraiser set for Feb. 27, 2013 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.
The envelope, please. Nearly 100 performers turned out this month to vie for a spot in the sixth-annual Morristown's Got Talent—the annual fundraiser for the Morris Educational Foundation. But, only a select few would be able to move on to the big show on Feb. 27 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center. On Friday, 16 finalists were named to compete for the top prize of $1,000, as well as for the admiration and praise of the regularly-sold out event. A press event for the 16 performers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Morristown High School.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center will be hosting a food drive with all donations going toward the Community Soup Kitchen, based in Morristown. Food will be collected from Nov. 15 through Dec. 24. "The Mayo Center is proud to work with Community Soup Kitchen to help provide necessary food and supplies to those individuals in need," said Allison Larena, president and CEO of MPAC. "We encourage our patrons to help us in this effort to make the holiday season a joyous time for everyone."
