Cops: Man More Than Twice Legal Limit Flips SUV

Randolph resident overturns Jeep on West Hanover Avenue early Friday morning.

A Randolph man was more than twice over the legal limit when his vehicle overturned early Friday morning on West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township, police said. Vikash Amin, 25, registered a .18 percent blood-alcohol level and was charged with DWI, reckless driving, a cell phone violation and failure to keep right, Morris Township Police Capt. Rich Ferrone said. According to Ferrone, Amin was heading westbound on West Hanover Avenue at about 2 a.m. when he swerved into the other lane, flipped his car, and landed on the lawn of Homeless Solutions, located at 540 West Hanover Ave. Amin told police he crashed his 2005 Jeep because he swerved to avoid a deer while he was on the phone, Ferrone said. For Young Firefighter, Service is in the Blood

A MHS freshman follows his father path in volunteering in the borough.

Nicholas Karr of Morris Plains is following in his father's footsteps in taking up volunteerism at an early age. Karr just joined the Morris Plains Fire Department as a junior member. His father, Jason Karr, started volunteering with the Morris Minute Men when he was only 16, and is now serving his fourth year as a borough councilman.  Nicholas, 15, officially joined the fire department in April. Although his age prohibits him from going inside an actual fire, he is still able to stay outside and help with all the tools necessary to put the fire out, such as the hydrant. Junior firefighters in Morris Plains can start as young as 14, and once they're 18 they can get certification to fight the fires inside. Nicholas said he plans on staying …

Wellness Day: Keeping Morris Plains Residents Healthy

Board of Health and Rotary event features comprehensive blood screenings, flu shots and more.

Judging from the crowded parking lot at the Morris Plains Community Center, the crisp autumn wind must have reminded residents that flu season is just around the corner. Morris Plains Wellness Day, an annual event co-sponsored by the borough's Board of Health and the Morris Plains Rotary Club,  began at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. Bob Heiser, president of the Board, was on hand to welcome visitors.  "We're offering blood pressure screenings as well as a complete metabolic profile," Heiser said. "That's a complete blood analysis, including blood count, triglycerides, and high and low-density cholesterol. We also have a liver panel that covers chemicals in your body such as sodium, phosphorous; a battery of things." "It's been happening for at…
