Last Chance: Register for Golf Classic

Event benefits Morris Museum

Time's running out to register for the Morris Museum's 42nd Annual Golf Classic. It'll be at the Canoe Brook Country Club, 1108 Morris Turnpike, Summit on Monday, May 14. The schedule is as follows: Proceeds from the Golf Classic support the museum's exhibitions, collections, education programs, and theatre performances for children, seniors and families The cost is $450 per golfer, ot $1650 per foursome. That includes the tournament, lunch, a grand buffet dinner, the open bar, and silent and live auctions. Review: A 50-year Musical Marriage at Bickford

Theate wraps season with “I Do! I Do!”

The Garden State is deservedly famous for its sweet Jersey corn. Now, a bittersweet variety is being cultivated at the Bickford Theatre in Morris Township. The professional theater company at the Morris Museum is wrapping its 2011-12 season with the popular little musical, “I Do! I Do!”—which is far tamer than suggested by the punctuation in its title. A seven-time Tony nominee (and a winner for star Robert Preston) in 1966, this dated but pleasant affair comes from the creative team of Tom Jones (book-lyrics) and Harvey Schmidt (music), who six years earlier had launched an off-Broadway franchise with “The Fantasticks.” Premiering at a time when women’s liberation was beginning to shake up the status quo, “I Do! Get a TINY Look at Health, at Morris Museum

A new exhibit opening this Spring will allow visitors to see how molecules affect our everyday lives.

The Morris Museum has opened a new interactive exhibit, Molecules and Health, which will be available for the public until July 1. At this new exhibit, visitors will be able to see how molecules shape our bodies, our medicines, and our world through interactive activities. Children and families participating in the exhibit will learn about the microscopic particles that make up everything around us. They will see what molecules do, how they shape our bodies and everything in the world. Molecules and Health was developed by the New York Hall of Science, and is sponsored by the Parsippany-based pharmaceutical company Daiichi Sanko, Inc. Talented Teens' Art on Display at Museum

Fresh Perspectives begins April 5

More than 50 artworks by New Jersey high school artists will be on view in the 23rd annual Fresh Perspectives exhibition at the Morris Museum from April 5 through May 27. All artists selected for Fresh Perspectives will be awarded a certificate of participation at an opening reception on Wednesday, April 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. The annual Fresh Perspectives juried exhibition began in 1989 to give artistically accomplished high school students a professionally organized museum exhibition experience and to recognize art teachers for their encouragement and the effective teaching of these talented student artists. Jewish Women's Group Fundraiser At Museum

The National Council of Jewish Women had "a night at the museum" to remember.

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), West Morris Section, recently hosted a fundraising event at the Morris Museum. The event, A Night at the Museum, consisted of a scavenger hunt for hidden treasures scattered around the museum, plus a dessert and coffee reception. The event was planned by the vice president of fundraising at the West Morris NCJW, Joy Buchfirer, together with Debbi Farkas and Rhonda Goldberger, all of Morristown.  The NCJW is a volunteer organization inspired by Jewish values that advocates social change. The organization works to improve the quality of life for women, children, and families through community service and education. 'Astro Day' set for Museum

Morris Museum presents a day of astronomy on March 24.

The Morris Museum Astronomical Society presents a day full of programs on Saturday, March 24 at the museum. The family  event includes astronomy programs, children’s activities solar observing and planetarium shows will be scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Night sky observing of the moon, planets and other celestial objects (weather permitting) from 7 to 9 p.m. Experts from the MMAS will be on hand to provide lectures, telescope training (bring your family’s telescope), solar observation and night sky observing. Programs supplement Chinese porcelain exhibit

The Morris Museum is presenting several events along with its ongoing exhibition of Chinese porcelain. The first is a demonstration of Chinese Brush Painting on Saturday, April 21, from 2 to 4 pm at a cost of $15. Zhiyuan Cong is a professor and the director of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University. Asian Art Apprisal at Museum

Consultant will meet with the public

An Asian Antiques Roadshow will come to the Morris Museum on Sunday, March 25 at 1 p.m. Martin Lorber, a specialist consultant with the Winston Art Group in New York City will appraise up to three objects for members of the public. Objects from China, Japan, Korea, India, Nepal, Tibet and Southeast Asia will be appraised by Lorder who comes from a family of Old China Hands. His professional work in the area of Asian art includes 13 years with Sotheby's New York as Director and founder of the Japanese/Korean/Indian/Southeast Asian Department. He is a featured appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow, a WGBH production televised nationwide on the PBS network. To register, call 973-971-3706

Museum Has New Exhibit

Chinese ceramics will be on display at Morris Museum

A new exhibit at the Morris Museum features a selection from a major Chinese ceramics collection. The opening reception for Harmony in Clay: The Elegance and Refinement of Song Ceramics. will be Sunday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m.  Speaker at the reception will be Rosemary Scott,a scholar, curator and author who will present a program on Chinese ceramics. The title of her talk is “Artistic Refinement and Technological Innovation: Chinese Ceramics of the 10th-14th Centuries”. Scott holds a degree in Chinese Art and Archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where she went on to do postgraduate research. Black Tie and Black Leather at Morris Museum Gala

Opening gala on Saturday, Sept. 24 will celebrate new exhibit: "On the Road: 100 Years of Motorcycles in America"

Start your engines! On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. the Morris Museum shifts into high gear for its annual gala, which will celebrate the opening of its newest exhibit: "On the Road: 100 Years of Motorcycles in America." Maria Gatewood, director of advancement for the Museum, said the Gala, produced by the Museum,  is a "major" fundraiser, with all proceeds going toward exhibitions and educational programs, as well as productions at the Bickford Theatre. "The Gala takes place at the Morris Museum, surrounding the exhibit," said Gatewood. "There'll be a biker bar, a band and a live auction."
