The Morris Township Fire Department has been stocking up on Easter eggs and bunnies. They’re preparing for their Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Alfred Vail Elementary School—125 Speedwell Avenue in Morris Plains. “I’ve been with the fire department for 31 years and the Easter egg hunt was going on when I joined,” said Firefighter William Duffy. “We just went out and bought eggs and bunnies. The kids who find the prize eggs get a prize bunny.” The egg hunt is for children 12 years old and younger. Participating kids need to bring a basket. Families simply need to get there at 10 a.m. and get their kids in the right age category. If the weather doesn’t hold up, the egg hunt will be moved into the fire …

Matthew Kaufhold has served as a volunteer with Hillside Hose since 2009.
The Morris Township Fire Department recently welcomed their newest member to the ranks. Matthew Kaufhold was sworn in at Dec. 18 Morris Township Committee meeting, becoming the latest fulltime firefighter here. The 2005 Morristown High School graduate had been part of the volunteer squad since 2009, at Hillside Hose. He is a 2009 Rutgers University graduate, receiving a degree in criminal justice. It's a family thing the Kaufhold, as his father, August, has also been a firefighter in Morris Township for 23 years, "so it's been real special to be able to work with him and follow in his footsteps," Matthew Kaufhold said.

An early-morning fire that tore through a Cedar Knolls home early Friday morning does not appear suspicious, according to a preliminary investigation, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, the prosecutor's office said. The Morris Township, Morris Plains, Cedar Knolls and Whippany fire departments responded to the fire shortly before 5:30 a.m., the prosecutor's office said. Randolph resident overturns Jeep on West Hanover Avenue early Friday morning.
A Randolph man was more than twice over the legal limit when his vehicle overturned early Friday morning on West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township, police said. Vikash Amin, 25, registered a .18 percent blood-alcohol level and was charged with DWI, reckless driving, a cell phone violation and failure to keep right, Morris Township Police Capt. Rich Ferrone said. According to Ferrone, Amin was heading westbound on West Hanover Avenue at about 2 a.m. when he swerved into the other lane, flipped his car, and landed on the lawn of Homeless Solutions, located at 540 West Hanover Ave. Amin told police he crashed his 2005 Jeep because he swerved to avoid a deer while he was on the phone, Ferrone said. Michael Kubach became ill during a training session this week.
A Morris Township firefighter who suffered a heat stroke on Monday was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday, according to Morris Township Fire Department Chief Scott Lovenberg. Firefighter Michael Kubach suffered from heat exhaustion on Monday when he was going through training evolutions at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. Kubach, of Morristown, was transported to Morristown Medical Center on Monday and has been receiving treatment there since. Lovenberg said Kubach was doing much better the last few days. Kubach has been with the Morris Township Fire Department for six years. Lovenberg said he is not sure when Kubach will be able to return to work after he is released.

Primer and glue smell causes nearly 20 people to suffer headaches and nausea.
Employees in the Atlantic Health System offices located on South Street were evacuated Monday afternoon after an odor was detected that caused several people to suffer headaches and feel nauseous. According to Morris Township Fire Chief Scott J. Lovenberg, the fire department received a call around noon originally regarding five to six people experiencing the symptoms who work at the building at 435 South St. At about 1 p.m., he said close to 20 people were feeling nauseous and had headaches from the odor. Lovenberg said none of the victims needed to be transported to the hospital, but they were seeking medical attention on the scene from the Morris Minute Men First Aid Squad. The Morris Township Fire Department is having a Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment BBQ on Saturday, June 23. The dinner for the prospective firefighters will be from noon to 5 p.m. at the Hillside Fire Station located at 132 Western Avenue. Hillside is one of the five stations in the township. The other locations are Mt. Kemble, Collinsville, Fairchild and Woodland.

Blaze that extended into the walls of the home was knocked down within 10 minutes.
The Morris Township Fire Department extinguished an electrical fire within 10 minutes Thursday morning inside the walls of a Hamilton Avenue home. Chief Scott Lovenberg said the fire was caused from water that got into a receptacle on the outdoor porch when a painting contractor was washing the exterior of house at about 11 a.m. The water caused the receptacle to catch on fire, which then led to a fire in between the interior and exterior walls of the home. Mt. Kemble, Hillside, and Fairchild Fire Stations of the Morris Township Fire Department all responded to the scene, and had to open up the exterior wall with a saw to get to the fire confined in between the wall, Lovenberg said. The various emergency services of Morris Township will be hosting Emergency Services Day, at the Morris Township Police Headquarters, on Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m Residents and members of the Morris Township area community can tour police headquarters, and see the various pieces of equipment that will be on display. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the various members of police and fire departments, the Morris Minutemen and members of the Office of Emergency Management, who see to the safety and well being of Morris Township on a daily basis. Police officers will answer questions on a variety of topics including traffic safety, teen driving, crime prevention, and Internet safety.

Officials said emergency personnel met challenge of hurricane and snowstorm.

That was the general assessment of township public safety and emergency management personnel earlier this month as they had time to review their response to the two large and different storms that hit New Jersey in August and October.
