A James Street residential burglary was likely the work of a known Bergen County crew that has hit homes across North Jersey for years, Morris Township Police said. According to Capt. Rich Ferrone, the residents were away when the home was broken into sometime between last Friday night and Wednesday afternoon. The incident was discovered when a neighbor went to water the flowers at the home on Wednesday, Ferrone said. It appeared the front door had been kicked in, Ferrone said. The door jam was broken and the wood frame that held the lock was found on the front steps, Ferrone said. The master bedroom was found ransacked, but it was not immediately known if anything was missing since the homeowners were still away, Ferrone said. The break-…

Broken line likely not to cause traffic problems as road was already closed off, according to police.
Morris Township Police said a gas line break during continued roadwork on Bailey Hollow Road Thursday afternoon was going to likely take a while to be fixed. A strong scent of natural gas could be detected about a mile down Mt. Kemble Avenue, although the scent had dissapated at the place of the accident, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Police were on the scene and the situation had been contained, Officer Victor Galardo said. PSE&G crews quickly arrived to fix the break, police said. It was not known, however, how long the repair work would take. But, it likely would not affect traffic as Bailey Hollow Road is not a main artery and traffic already was limited because of the ongoing repairs, police said.

Alarm warning stickers, brackets among measures that could help prevent the kinds of break-ins seen in Madison and Morris Township recently, Madison police say.
While window air-conditioning units keep rooms cool, but they also can give thieves an easy way to access homes. Police in Morris Township and Madison have reported five break-ins in the past two months in which homes were entered by having window AC units pushed in, and similarities have led police to wonder if a single "AC Bandit" might be responsible for the five incidents. On Friday, the Madison Police Department distributed a list with tips to prevent such crimes, including ways homeowners can secure their window AC units with items from the hardware store, and by installing alarms or at least making would-be burglars think the setup is alarmed. The method of breaking in "is common but can easily be prevented," police said. The full …
