A Morristown man believed to be involved in two accidents on Interstate 78 was arrested for drunk driving Wednesday, Chatham Borough Police said. Christopher Grandados, 25, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and reckless driving. Police also determined Granados "was involved in at least two motor vehicle accidents" on I-78 before he entered Chatham, according to a statement released by Kevin O'Shea, of the Chatham Borough Police Department. The Morris County Sheriff's K-9 unit assisted with a recent marijuana possession arrest in Morris Township, police said. According to a statement prepared by Lt. Robert Duffy, of the Morris Township Police Department, a 2002 Ford wagon was pulled over on West Hanover Avenue on the evening of July 29. Ptl. David Kosakowski suspected the presence of marijuana and the K-9 unit was brought into the investigation, police said. A substance believed to be marijuana was located inside the vehicle and the driver Marvin Pierrot, 30, of Fremont, Calif., was arrested on charges of possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, police said. A passing motorist tipped Morris Township officers off to an alleged drunk driver, police said. Ptl. Mark Osterhoudt had a vehicle pulled over on East Hanover Avenue on June 17, when the passing motorist stopped to tell him about another vehicle being driven erratically, according to a statement from Capt. Rich Ferrone. Police then found and stopped the Ford 250 pickup truck, in which driver Alexander Araya, 39, of Morris Township had open bottles of alcoholic beverages, Ferrone said. Araya showed signs of intoxication, and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, Ferrone said. “Click-it or Ticket,” a three-week, nationwide campaign that encourages drivers to buckle-up or face the consequences, drew in a few other alleged lawbreakers in Morris Plains. Police say that in addition to the 105 seat belt violations they wrote up between May 16 and June 5, they also nabbed 215 cell phone violators, eight suspended drivers, six uninsured motorists, five speeders and two people in possession of drugs. The drug arrests took place on June 4, according to Detective Jason Kohn of the Morris Plains Police Department. Morris Plains Police report several incidents in recent days.
The Morris Plains Police Department has received multiple reports of theft at businesses located in the borough's Rt. 10 East corridor. In the week-long period ending Dec. 18, complaints for theft were signed against three adults, complaints were pending against three additional adults and one juvenile was arrested, according to reports on the Morris Plains Police Department's website. In addition, a woman reported that her purse, which contained $1000.00, was stolen at one of the businesses.
