If you can't park in your driveway, police say winter storm parking rules apply to you.
Morris Plains Borough Police have issued a reminder for residents: Because of the winter snow storm affecting the area, special parking rules are in place. Plowing and sanding of borough streets is difficult when vehicles park haphazardly on both sides of the streets, leaving narrowed roadways that restrict traffic and make it difficult for emergency vehicles to do their work, said a police statement. Police said that if it is possible, the best course is to park in one's own driveway during inclement weather. To help the borough provide improved snow plowing and sanding service to citizens and unrestricted access of emergency vehicles, police ask people who cannot park in their driveways to follow the law during and after the storm's …

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead. Customers are reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines …

What chilly-weather goods are your neighbors selling?
If you're reading this when it posts on Friday, Oct. 5 you may wonder what we're smoking. It's understandable, considering the nearly-80-degrees temps outside. But, in just two days, any potential sunbathers are in for a rude awakening, as the temperature is expected to drop into the lower 50s. Brrr! Which, of course, gave us a good excuse to put together this post.

Our friends at Family Service of Morris County would like to share some tips for surviving, and thriving, as winter blues settle into your system. As winter settles in and the joyful celebrations of the holiday season are behind us, many find that our spirits drop, too. See what your neighbors are selling before snow comes to town.
So, we're hearing around the virtual watercooler that some snow is headed our way Friday night into Saturday. How much? Well, that depends on who you ask. In light of this first apparent major snowstorm of the season, "Morristown for Sale" this week is looking at some warm items you can purchase now (yes, right now!) from your neighbors on Craigslist.

It's 'Winter's Day on the Farm' at Fosterfields
Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township has set aside Sunday Feb. 6 as "Winter's Day on the Farm," an opportunity for visitors to step back in time to the 1920s. Visitors can see how ice was harvested in blocks from ponds and hauled to ice houses by horse-drawn sleds. There will be opportunities to help tap the maple trees, churn butter and saw wood the old-fashioned way. Children will enjoy meeting the farm animals, watching the milking of the cows and trying out old-time games in the visitors' center. The Willows, an 1854 Gothic Revival-style house, will be open to visitors, who can observe how food was cooked over a wood fire. A vintage Model "T" Ford, Rockaway carriage and Hupmobile will be on display as well. The event …

Typical NJ Transit. They will cross-honor tickets during the storm. They should do that all the time! There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. It would be helpful if NJT would, at some point, let customers know what their travel options are if rail is out. For example, if service goes out on the Morris & Essex …   more ›
